“I'm going to MJC as a music major. After getting my associate's I plan to transfer to a CSU to get my bachelor's in music. I'm envisioning my career as including some amount of part-time ensemble performance with full-time teaching, either as a music teacher or math teacher.”

Francisco Ortiz, trumpet

Francisco Ortiz, trumpet

Graduating from Patterson High School

6 years in the MSYO, Brass Quintet Ensemble Member

“One of my favorite memories was in a Brass Quintet performance. During one particular song, the quintet had to actually stand divided in which one half was on the left side of the stage and the other was on the right in order to provide a choir-like sound. This was a memorable experience because it was so unique and able to embody a core practice of the MSYO program: exposing young musicians to different and unfamiliar musical experiences.

This fall, Francisco will be studying Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University.
