About this Performance
February brings us two Russian master composers, Rachmaninoff and Rimsky-Korsakov. The program begins with Stephen Hough performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Composer and award-winning pianist, Hough has appeared with most of the major European and American orchestras including the London Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony. The evening concludes with the ever popular Scheherazade. Based off of the legendary tale, “Arabian Nights,” the princess Scheherazade uses her storytelling to outwit the murderous Sultan each night for 1,001 nights. This thrilling musical adventure will transport you through the princess’s mesmerizing tales with the vivid colors of Rimsky-Korsakov’s masterful score.
