Kristin Lee, violin
At the age of 19, Kristin Lee is one of the most recognized artists of her generation. Born in Seoul, Korea, Ms. Lee began studying the violin at the age of 5 and within just one year, she won the first prize at the prestigious Korea Times Violin Competition. In 1995, she moved to the United States and continued her musical studies under Sonja Foster. Two years later, she entered the Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School and became a student of Dorothy DeLay and Catherine Cho. In January 2000, after playing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with Juilliard's Pre-College Symphony Orchestra, she was chosen by Itzhak Perlman to become one of his students.
Ms. Lee made her orchestral debut with Orchestra Atlanta at the age of 10. Since then, she has appeared as soloist with the Saint Louis Symphony, the New Jersey Symphony, the New Mexico Symphony, the Albany (N.Y.) Symphony, Macon (Ga.) Symphony, Westchester Philharmonic, Alexandria Symphony, Ural Philharmonic of Russia, Pusan Philharmonic, Korea Broadcast Symphony of Korea, and many more. Ms. Lee has performed recitals at the Rising Star Series of Ravinia, the Korean-American Scholarship Foundation at the Kumho Art Gallery in Korea, the Korean Music Foundation in New York, the Young Artist Series of the Louvre in Paris, Steinway Hall in New York., and Temple Emanu-El in New York. Highlights of Ms. Lee's 2005-06 season includes a recital at The Metropolitan Museum in New York and performance with the Rochester Philharmonic. She has appeared on Bob Sherman's "Young Artists' Showcase" on WQXR in 2003, and PBS broadcast of "Live from Lincoln Center" through the involvement of Perlman Music Program.
Ms. Lee has won numerous awards and prizes, including the Excellent Achievement in Musicianship Award from the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School, Juilliard Per-College Violin Competition in 1997 and 1999, Atlanta Jewish Community Competition in 1996, Aspen Music Festival's Violin Competition in 1999, New Jersey Young Artist's Competition in 2000, Steinway Hall scholarship foundation in 2003, and many more.
Ms. Lee continues her studies at The Juilliard School since 2004 as a full-scholarship student after graduating the Pre-College Division.
