Mozart & Mahler
February 12 & 13, 2010
8:00pm - Gallo Center for the Arts, Modesto
David Lockington, conductor
Carrie Hennessey, soprano
Bring your valentine to the Modesto Symphony Orchestra for an enchanting evening of Mozart and Mahler. Let the Modesto Symphony serenade you with one of the greatest hits of classical music, Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik or “A Little Night Music.”
Discover the mysteries of Mahler! A complex individual, Gustav Mahler tried to explain the meaning of life through his music. Mahler’s Fourth Symphony is one of his most irresistible works. Completed in 1901, it beautifully intertwines folk tunes, klezmer music, waltzes, marches and children’s songs in a passionate, dreamlike composition. Music Director David Lockington will explore the man and his music for a deeper understanding of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony through multi-media and live orchestral passages before playing Mahler’s 4th symphony in its entirety.
Due to the snow storm in Baltimore, soprano Janice Chandler Eteme is unable to be here for this concert. We are very fortunate to have found Carrie Hennessey to take her place on such short notice. Carrie Hennessey is not new to Modesto as she most recently appeared with Townsend Opera Players as Hannah in The Merry Widow.
