The MSYO, led by Music Director and Symphony Orchestra conductor Ming Luke, along with conductors Anne Martin and Katye Leonard, played to a crowd of over 300 at their season opening concert last weekend at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
The program featured a combination of several classic works and modern works including pieces composed by Modesto’s own, Gary Gilroy. Not only was this just an excellent season opening performance, it was also the debut of MSYO’s newest group…. the Wind Ensemble led by conductor Katye Leonard!
Our talented Youth Orchestra musicians have a fun filled season ahead of them. In June 2012, the MSYO will join the Napa Valley Youth Symphony and Ming Luke for a concert tour in Central Europe! As you can imagine, our student musicians are very excited about this opportunity to tour Vienna, Salzburg and Prague. Each student musician needs to raise just over $3000 to attend this trip.
To help students make their way to Central Europe, the MSYO is excited to launch the first annual international concert tour fundraising event, Stings-Spaghetti & Symphony, on January 28, 2012. This unique event will include chamber music, strolling violins, antipasti, wine, raffles, silent auction, and of course, a fabulous spaghetti dinner. Tickets will be available soon and several levels of event sponsorship are available! For more info contact us at msyo@modestosymphony.org.
